Quick Answer

GB/T 11263 splits H beams into HW (wide flange — columns), HM (middle flange) and HN (narrow flange — beams). Volume sizes: HW250×250 = 72.4 kg/m, HW300×300 = 94.5 kg/m, HN300×150 = 37.3 kg/m, HM294×200 = 57.3 kg/m — rolled in Q235B and Q355B with EN 10204 3.1 MTC. Chinese mills roll GB by default: best price, shortest lead.

The GB H beam system is China's native answer to the W and IPE series — and because Chinese mills roll it by default, GB sections are usually the cheapest and fastest route to any H beam order. The designation reads differently, but once decoded it is the same steel.

Decoding HW / HM / HN

  • H = hot-rolled H section (GB/T 11263).
  • W (wide): flange width ≈ section height — the column family. "HW 250×250" = 250 mm deep, 250 mm wide.
  • M (middle): flange width between W and N — general framing.
  • N (narrow): narrow flange — the bending-efficient beam family, like IPE.

Grades and Supply

  • Grades: Q235B (≈ S235JR/A36/SS400) for standard framing; Q355B (≈ S355JR/A572 Gr50) for heavy members — grade equivalence table, Q355B deep dive.
  • Lengths: 6 / 9 / 12 m or cut-to-length ±2 mm; drilling and blasting + primer available: processing →
  • Certificates: EN 10204 3.1 MTC naming GB/T 11263 and the grade, heat-number traceable.
  • MOQ: 5 t — GB lines roll continuously, so lead times run 15–25 days without special scheduling.
